Part of keeping healthy is to regularly detoxify yourself. You can also get a variety of essential vitamins and minerals by including detox herbs into your recipes, keeping you healthy and adding flavour and texture to what you eat.

The following are some of the herbs you can add to your recipes resulting in some valuable healthy eating benefits.

  • Black pepper - stimulates the breakdown of fat cells while also having anti-bacterial and anti-oxidant effect.
  • Cumin seeds - Rich in iron, have powerful antioxidants and release pancreatic enzymes which are essential for a healthy digestive system. It is also thought to have anti-carcinogenic properties.
  • Ginger - Aids by supplying potassium, copper, vitamin B6 and magnesium. Gingerol, found in this herb (obviously) also inhibits blooding clotting components, thus thinning the blood. It can also easily be added to detox juicing recipes.
  • Mint - Soothes the digestive track, acts as an anti-oxidant, is easily grown and great when added to salads
  • Nutmeg - Also aids digestion, lowers blood pressure and genenerally detoxifies the body. Another interesting benefit is how nutmeg can stimulate the brain, relieving stress and stimulates mental activity.
  • Parsley - Rich in calcium, iron and contains three times more vitamin C than oranges (166mg per 100g). Not only is it a detox agent and helps fight bad breath but it also helps boost the oxygen supply to your major organs.
  • Poppy seeds - In addition to treating nervous disorders, isomnia and diarrhea, poppy seeds will give your recipes texture and a good source of fibre, calcium, potassium and polyunsaturates.
  • Turmeric - contains anti-inflammatory antioxidant, which can help boost the function of the liver and bile secretion, which aids the detox process.

These are just some out of many, I will write a more detailed guide on how to detox with the uses of herbs and their different application but for now, as it’s getting late and I’ve just finished drinking my chamomile tea, I am heading off to bed :)

I’ve been using turmeric for quite some time now, mostly for detoxification. I find it also soothes my indigestion at times.
Great blog. How about some information on lemon juice? I’ve been hearing a lot about it lately.
