Oils that settle the mind
So, with all the herbal goodness, recipes and remedies that I’ve been reading about, I did find a rather interesting piece titled “Overthinking and Worry”. Let me share the first paragraph;
In contrast to most psychological problems, overthinking and worry relate to one main organ - the Spleen-pancreas. The residence of the Intellect (Yi), the spleen controls the thinking process and lends to the mind (shen) the capacity for conceptualisation.
When due to worry, tension or mental strain, the intellect (Yi) is subejcted to undue pressure,
overthinking is likely to ensue. In this condition, thinking is hyperactive and can become muddled, confused and bogged down. The intellect (Yi) has difficulty in reaching clear conclusions, as the mind churns continually in an attempt to find them. Such a condition is an imbalance of reflection - the root “emotion” of the earth element.
So basically, the essential oils that are primarily grounding in influence are those of benzoin and
vetiver, which are sweet, resinous and relaxing. They “earth” the Qi that rises to the head, producing a
mind full of superlfuous thoughts. Which, in my opinion, is suited for those who are physically inactive.
I also have to mention sandalwood, which embodies the principle of being - an oil that lulls and deeply
calms the mind. Draining conditions of congestion and heat, it quells the fixed and agitated thoughts
that lead to mental stress.
Frankincense and myrrh oils share with sandalwood an ability to instill tranquility. Soothing and
balsamic - on both physical and spiritual levels - frankincense eases the mind when troubled by thoughts
of regret and worries of mundane kind. Just as lavender is indicated for the over-emotional type of
person, frankincense oil is suited to those who are overwhelmed.
Hope this finds you well, take care all.

so Im assuming the most common way to apply is to use an oil burner. any other recommended methods ?
Hi Bill,
There’s actually various methods of application. One thing, don’t use the oils undiluted, if applying oil to the skin, you would want to use around 10 - 15 drops of the essential oil to a carrier oil of your choice, depending on the therapeutic benefit being sought.
I will write an article on the popular methods of application very soon.
cheers
-Phil
